Tesla, led by Elon Musk, continues to be a major Bitcoin holder. Data shows the company hasn’t sold any of its Bitcoin this year, even during periods of market instability.

Bitcoin major reserve asset for Tesla

According to their research, Arkham reviewed Tesla’s first Bitcoin purchase, which occurred in 2021. The company invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin at the time, making them one of the first major companies to hold it as part of their company assets.

The value of the company’s Bitcoin reached over $1.5 billion shortly after the initial purchase, as the price of the cryptocurrency increased. However, the company has sold off some of its Bitcoin on at least two separate occasions.

Tesla sold its Bitcoin holdings in March and April 2021, earning around $260.2 million from the sale of 4,670 BTC. This resulted in a profit of approximately $100.2 million, according to a recent report.

Elon Musk stated at the time that the company was simply testing how easily Bitcoin could be bought and sold on the market. Also, activity was detected in the company’s Bitcoin holdings during June 2022.

Tesla has held onto its Bitcoin since initially purchasing it, and it currently remains in a digital wallet on Coinbase. The value of this Bitcoin is now around $812 million, and there’s no indication Tesla plans to sell it.

Bitcoin and treasury firms: Big picture

In addition to Tesla, Arkham reported that SpaceX, the rocket company, holds 8,285 Bitcoin, currently worth $584 million.

This purchase shows that more companies are starting to accept Bitcoin, suggesting they see it as a reliable way to store value. Other companies, like Strategy Inc., have been consistently buying Bitcoin, and they expect its price to continue increasing over time.

Recently, the price of Bitcoin briefly surged due to a large amount of money flowing into new Bitcoin ETFs.

At the time of this report, the coin was trading at $69,990, a decrease of 3.61% over the past 24 hours. Experts see this price drop as a normal correction, with some investors selling to realize profits.
