Daredevil’s Kingpin: Bitcoin Dreams and Art World Schemes!

So, hold onto your hats, folks! Wilson Fisk, the big cheese of crime himself, thought it was a grand idea to sprinkle some Bitcoin (BTC) into his criminal empire during a flashback in Daredevil: Born Again, Season 2, Episode 5. Yes, you heard that right! Not only does he want to rule the streets, but he also wants to rule the blockchain! And let’s just say, it’s one of the MCU’s most hilarious crypto moments yet!

This gem of an episode premiered on Disney+ on April 14, cleverly titled “The Grand Design”-because when you’re running a crime syndicate, who doesn’t want a snazzy title?

Kingpin’s Bitcoin Pitch: A Hard Pass!

The flashback whisks us back to 2014-2015, before Netflix decided that every hero must have a brooding backstory. Fisk, portrayed by the ever-menacing Vincent D’Onofrio, is cruising in a car with his sidekick James Wesley, played by Toby Leonard Moore-who, by the way, probably thought he signed up for a regular job, not a masterclass in criminal economics.

In the latest episode of @Daredevil, there is a flashback to season 1 with the King Pin wanting to diversify into Bitcoin. He is advised that it is too volatile and should look into fine art instead.

Season 1 took place in April 2015 with the price of Bitcoin at $250.

After a riveting conversation with a guy nicknamed “The Lion” (because why not?), Fisk hits them with the Bitcoin bombshell to modernize and diversify their money-laundering escapades. I mean, nothing says ‘criminal mastermind’ like trying to figure out how to make digital money disappear!

But wait! Wesley, ever the cautious accomplice, says, “Whoa there, chief! Bitcoin is as volatile as my Aunt Edna after two cups of coffee. How about we pivot to fine art instead?” Apparently, the art world is where all the cool criminals hang out these days. He even throws in a contact from the Scene Contempo Gallery-because nothing screams sophistication like pretending to appreciate a Jackson Pollock!

At first, Fisk scoffs at the idea of art being anything but pretentious nonsense. But lo and behold, he decides to check it out! And what does that lead to? His iconic meet-cute with Vanessa Marianna-proof that crime really does pay off in love!

The timeline checks out too-back then, BTC was trading between $200 and $300, which is practically pocket change now but was worth more than a bag of chips back then.

For a crime boss looking for sneaky financial channels, this suggestion was both laughable and oddly genius!

Crypto Fans Went Wild!

The line went slightly viral faster than a speeding bullet! Over on Reddit’s r/Bitcoin community, a post titled “Daredevil: Born Again S2 E5” attracted a flurry of reactions ranging from “that’s wild” to heated debates about whether Fisk would have been the next big whale. Spoiler alert: he would have totally crushed it!

Unfortunately, no subsequent episodes have followed up on Fisk’s crypto dreams. It seems the art world is the only thing Kingpin is sticking to. Who needs Bitcoin when you can have a fancy painting on your wall to impress other villains?
