Ripple USD Surpasses Moon Landing: $275M Inflow as XRP Ledger Loses Its Mind

Ripple USD stablecoin (RLUSD) has apparently decided to play “Let’s Make a Stablecoin Billionaire” on the XRP Ledger. According to Hussein Zangana-better known as Vet on X, who also happens to validate the XRP Ledger-the past week has been a flurry of minting, burning, and general financial chaos. “Lots of minting and redeeming of $RLUSD on XRP this week,” Vet tweeted, while simultaneously sipping a coffee that costs more than most people’s rent.

Lots of minting and redeeming of $RLUSD on XRP this week.

Net inflow liquidity of +$275M. Binance also handled some RLUSD – ICYMI they also service RLUSD on XRP.

Good chances we see next week Gemini with end of month mint/redemptions.

The XRP Ledger’s recent activity could be summarized as: “If you thought your bank had a busy day, try explaining ‘mint’ and ‘burn’ to your grandmother.” The Ripple Stablecoin tracker X account, which probably spends more time counting coins than you spend on your phone, reported a staggering number of transactions. On May 22 alone, 10,095,600 RLUSD were minted, while earlier in the week, 230,000,000 RLUSD were minted on the XRP Ledger. Meanwhile, 78.7 million worth were burned, which is about as dramatic as watching your Netflix password expire.

Vet’s screenshot reveals a net liquidity inflow of $275 million, which is either the universe trying to tell us something or just a really good day for accountants. Binance, the exchange that once listed a coin called “Dogecoin,” also joined the fun by handling RLUSD transactions. “Binance also handled some RLUSD – ICYMI they also service RLUSD on XRP,” Vet quipped, as if this were the most normal thing since the invention of the wheel (or at least the first time someone successfully sent money over the internet).

Back in January, Binance added RLUSD to their platform, offering Spot trading, portfolio margin eligibility, and even Binance Earn. It’s like giving your kid a piggy bank, a credit card, and a loan to start a business-all in one day. Vet hinted that Gemini might follow suit next week, because apparently, every crypto exchange needs to do the same thing on the same day, just to prove they’re not obsolete.

RLUSD’s market cap recently crossed $1.7 billion, which is impressive if you ignore the fact that it’s backed by growing use cases in payments and DeFi. Or, as the universe would say, “Here’s another way to confuse humans with numbers.”
