He believes such approaches simply create a separate system, rather than improving the original network’s capabilities.

These systems introduce ways to manage digital assets beyond Ethereum’s main security features. This creates potential risks for users if the people running these systems – like those who control transfers, authorize actions, or handle updates – don’t function properly.
Rollups are expected to inherit Ethereum’s security through strong proofs and settlement design.
If a connection relies on only a few validators, it’s more difficult to prove its validity. And the discussion isn’t just about how quickly things happen.
This also involves building trust with users, keeping them safe, and ensuring transactions are secure. Teams working on Layer 2 solutions are now being asked to move away from having everything managed in one central location.

Rollups Face New Market Test

Some groups are exploring ways to share sequencing tasks or create more accessible validator networks. Others are concentrating on improving methods to detect and prevent fraud, or to verify the accuracy of transactions.
As a crypto investor, I’m watching closely to see how things shake out with the next phase of development. It looks like Layer 2 solutions that are tightly connected to Ethereum itself are likely to do well. On the other hand, networks that just focus on being fast but don’t offer strong security might see less demand. It seems security and trust are becoming more important than just speed.
Ethereum still plans to use Layer 2 technologies to help it handle more transactions. However, the requirements for these technologies, specifically rollups, are getting more demanding.
Networks must show they are not only faster, but also aligned with Ethereum security.
As I’ve been researching, the central challenge for rollups has become much clearer. It’s not enough for them to simply *replicate* how Ethereum works; they absolutely *must* help Ethereum scale. How well rollups meet this challenge will likely define the future of the Layer 2 landscape.
