But It’s the Standard! Hoskinson Roasts the Ripple Joke

Charles Hoskinson, the Cardano feller, wandered into a dust-up between Emin Gün Sirer of Avalanche and Brad Garlinghouse of Ripple, and did it with the sort of humor a feller uses when a crow is pecking at his hat-tongue-in-cheek and a bit scornful, all at once.

The ruckus kicked off on an April Fools’ day, when Sirer pretended the banks were flocking to Ripple’s contraption, then tipped his hat and confessed it was a joke-though the joke wore the mask of truth like a mule wearing a saddle.

That jest didn’t spring from idle wind. Sirer has long sniffed at Ripple’s centralized ways and its plans for a shiny stablecoin, calling it “a backward step” for the whole crowd. Garlinghouse, for his part, snapped back that Ripple sits “rent free” in the opponent’s head, which is a fancy way of saying Cardano can’t quite forget Ripple’s shadow.

Why Cardano Sides with Avalanche against Ripple

The next day, Charles Hoskinson joined the chorus with a brief, sharp line: “But it’s the Standard!!!”

But it’s the standard!!!

– Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles) April 2, 2026

That sly remark references XRP’s long-winded banner, the notion that XRP will be the one bridge for all the globe’s cross-border payments. Hoskinson’s irony makes plain he’s skeptical of Ripple’s grand claim to global domination without a grain of salt.

The sting of his comment lands neatly in the context of late March 2026, when Cardano publicly opposed the Ripple-backed Clarity Act. In Hoskinson’s view, that bill would seal XRP as a legal “standard,” potentially squeezing out decentralized ventures like Cardano.

As of April 2026, Cardano, Avalanche and XRP Ledger are locked in the rough-and-tumble race for the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization market.

Ripple hones its teeth on cross-border corridors, Avalanche pushes its institutional subnets, and Cardano bets on security born of patient research. When three such forces clash, you can count on a good, loud ruckus to accompany the competition.
