Welcome, dear reader, to the US Crypto News Morning Briefing-your go-to snooze… erm, I mean, absolutely essential digest of the crypto shenanigans for the day ahead.
Pour yourself a cuppa, put your feet up, and brace yourself. This week, the limelight’s on those dashing crypto influencers, their mysteriously leaky wallets, and what all this malarkey means for the pennies in your pocket. It appears that monetizing one’s sparkling personality may not always jibe with the quaint notion of “ethical responsibility.” Who knew? 🤨
Crypto News of the Day: Only Five of 160 Crypto Influencers Actually Fessed Up About Promo Posts
Your old chum ZachXBT, a blockchain detective of no small repute, has cracked open a veritable can of worms on transparency-or the glaring lack thereof-amongst our beloved crypto influencers.
He unearthed a price sheet listing over 200 influencers’ wallet addresses and their promotional escapades. Out of 160 or so chaps and dames who cheerfully accepted cash for campaigns, fewer than five could be bothered to slap a little “advertisement” label on their posts.
“Price sheet of 200+ crypto influencers and their wallet addresses from a project they were recently contacted by to promote. From 160+ accounts who accepted the deal, I only saw <5 accounts actually disclose the promotional posts as an advertisement,” murmured ZachXBT in a public missive.
Ahem, quite the glaring compliance hiccup in the influencer marketing sphere. Meanwhile, the exposé arrives just as trust in the crypto KOLs (that’s Key Opinion Leaders for those playing at home) is teetering on a rather wobbly stilts.
Four months back, our friends at BeInCrypto noted many of these crypto celebs had done a vanishing act from platform X (aka Twitter). Rumour has it that brutal altcoin carnage, financial heartburn, and some nasty rifts with newfangled profit-seeking investors contributed to the exodus.
Whispered allegations about account flogging and lurid pump-and-dump theatrics have only tossed more wood onto the bonfire of distrust, leaving even the hardened old-timers feeling a mite miffed.
Meanwhile, Arkham Intelligence has rolled out their shiny new “KOL Label,” keeping tabs on wallets of influencers boasting over 100,000 followers. Sounds like Big Brother, but with a crypto twist.
This nifty gadget lets the hoi polloi verify if influencers genuinely hold the tokens they boast about or are just hawking snake oil for a quick buck.
CoinWire’s recent number crunching reveals a cheerful statistic: 76% of tokens backed by these influencer chaps go belly up, often shedding over 90% value within three months. Talk about a confidence booster! 🫠
ZachXBT’s detective work dovetails neatly with this, showing how influencer campaigns can be as misleading as a butler’s alibi when the silver spoons go missing.
“Seems they toss out small giveaways to charm people in developing countries,” added the blockchain sleuth with a tone dripping in weariness and suspicion.
Fiddlesticks! The lack of proper disclosures and a cavalcade of paid promotions could land poor followers in a pickle both reputational and financial.
“Biggest scammer on top! Now everyone can watch your wallets. But they should know y’all have multiple ones,” grumbled one user after Arkham’s debut. The digital equivalent of a knowing eyebrow raise. 🙄
Such scepticism from the peanut gallery is hardly surprising. Market pressures, on-chain prying tools, and slapdash disclosure practices combine to cook up a rather unsavoury brew.
While Arkham’s KOL Label introduces some semblance of accountability, it simultaneously sticks a pin in the reputations of influencers hell-bent on pushing altcoins and meme coins they don’t even own. The gall!
The savvy investor, therefore, should roll up their sleeves, conduct thorough due diligence, eyeball token fundamentals, promenade through community chatter, and not merely tip their hat to influencer endorsements alone.
“Skimming through the list most of the top “kols” on the list were popular for farming y@pping campaigns back in the day so no suprise that they dont disclose anything xd” – vert1d (@vert1dkrn), September 1, 2025
Nonetheless, despite all the tomfoolery, influencers remain the star players-albeit ones whose acts demand ever-closer scrutiny. Indeed, they and investors find themselves at a crossroad where transparency isn’t just quaint politeness but a determinant of one’s investment fate.
