Elon’s Rocket Firm Hiding $1.4B Bitcoin Hoard?!

SpaceX just casually revealed 18,712 Bitcoin in its SEC filing, which is apparently not enough to fund Mars colonization-but hey, it’s a start.

The Original Wild Guess

Before the filing, crypto news outlets were confidently telling readers SpaceX had 8,285 BTC. Turns out they were off by about 10,000 BTC-roughly the number of people who still think Bitcoin is a good idea. The SEC filing now confirms the real number, which is impressive because even Elon Musk probably didn’t expect this.

And yes, SpaceX now holds more Bitcoin than Tesla. According to BitcoinTreasuries, Tesla’s balance is a modest 11,509 BTC. Both companies are run by the same guy, who once tweeted “Bitcoin is a good idea” and then later said “Bitcoin is a bad idea.” Clearly, he’s the financial equivalent of a mood ring.

SpaceX’s Bitcoin position is now a public spectacle, joining its rocket launches, satellite internet, and vague promises of Mars colonization. The company’s IPO filing also boasts a “total addressable market” of $28.5 trillion across space, connectivity, and AI. That’s enough to buy every person on Earth a new iPhone… if we all suddenly decided to live on Mars.

Corporate Bitcoin Race: Who’s Holding the Bag?

SpaceX isn’t the only company playing the Bitcoin game. Strategy, a firm that specializes in holding Bitcoin, has 843,738 BTC. That’s 46 times what SpaceX has. But hey, at least Elon isn’t buying a pizza with it.

If SpaceX lists as planned, its Bitcoin holdings will join the list of things investors will scrutinize-alongside losses, Starlink’s Wi-Fi quality, and the feasibility of AI-powered Mars taxis. The filing doesn’t clarify whether SpaceX plans to sell, buy, or just sit on its Bitcoin. But given the company’s track record, we’d bet they’ll do all three in the next 48 hours.

For now, the SEC document confirms one thing: Elon Musk is either the most confident man in the universe or a guy with a really good sense of humor. Either way, the market is watching-and probably wondering who’s going to clean up the mess when the Bitcoin price drops by 80%.
