What to know:
- The Ethereum Foundation, in a move that can only be described as “bold,” staked over 20,000 additional ETH, because why not? It’s not like they have other things to do with their cash, right?
- This little escapade builds on their grand plan revealed back in February, where they decided that staking 70,000 ETH was the way to fund all their exciting operations, research, ecosystem development, and grants. Because who needs a rainy day fund when you can gamble on crypto?
- The freshly staked ETH is expected to yield a whopping 2.7%-down from a thrilling 3.4% earlier this year. But hey, at least they still have about 147,400 ETH (approximately $303 million) sitting pretty in their treasury, just in case they want to throw a party!
So, the Ethereum Foundation is doubling down on their strategy to make money work for them, or at least to keep it busy. According to Arkham, they staked more than 20,000 ETH on a Monday, because Mondays are the best time to make questionable financial decisions, right? Meanwhile, ether is chilling around $2,045, probably contemplating its life choices.
In typical foundation fashion, the transfers were sliced into neat little pieces of around 2,047 ETH each-because if you’re going to stake a fortune, it might as well be organized, like a college dorm room after finals week.
THE ETHEREUM FOUNDATION IS STAKING ETH
The Ethereum Foundation just staked $46.2M of ETH. This is more ETH than they have EVER staked before.

These deposits are just an extension of the foundation’s original plan to stake 70,000 ETH, turning long-held reserves into a glorious income stream for all sorts of fun projects-like research, ecosystem development, and grants. Who knew being responsible could look so much like a game of high-stakes poker?
Based on the CoinDesk Composite Ether Staking Rate (CESR), the foundation will rake in a dainty 2.7% yield from its staked ETH. A far cry from the heady days of 3.4%, but we can always hope for a miracle, can’t we?
And let’s not forget: the Ethereum Foundation has another 147,400 ETH (that’s $303 million, if you’re counting) tucked away in its treasury. Just in case they need to buy a small country or something.
