Nexus Core Systems has signed an agreement with the Moroccan government to build a new $1.28 billion artificial intelligence center.
Summary
- Nexus Core Systems signed a $1.28 billion MoU with Moroccan authorities at GITEX Africa 2026 to launch the Nexus AI Factory Platform.
- The project will roll out in two phases, combining an HPC data center, Center of Excellence, and innovation hub, with 36 MW capacity and 125 jobs by 2027.
- The initiative supports Morocco’s Digital 2030 strategy and is backed by technologies from Nvidia and Naver Cloud.
The agreement was signed at GITEX Africa 2026 in Marrakech, from April 7th to 9th. It involves Nexus Core Systems and several Moroccan government organizations: the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, the Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation, and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development.
This agreement marks the beginning of the “Nexus AI Factory Platform,” a project that’s central to Morocco’s efforts to become a leader in cutting-edge digital technology.
Integrated AI infrastructure and ecosystem
Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition says the new facility will be a hub for advanced computing and artificial intelligence. It will include a powerful data center, a training center to build skills in these areas, and a space for developing cutting-edge AI technologies.
The new design features a self-sufficient and connected system intended to serve both national requirements and international activities. Plans also include building a modern data center close to Casablanca, with the goal of greatly expanding its capabilities and powering it with renewable energy.
Phased rollout and investment structure
The project will roll out in two stages and is predicted to create 125 jobs by 2027. The first stage involves Nexus Core Systems investing 5 billion dirhams to build a 16-megawatt facility in the Nouaceur region, which will officially launch the platform.
The project will continue with another investment of 7 billion dirhams at a new location, increasing the total power generation capacity by 20 megawatts.
These steps are part of a larger plan to make the platform a strong base for handling significant AI tasks and allowing for growth in the future.
This project supports Morocco’s “Digital 2030” plan, launched in 2024, which aims to boost the digital economy’s share of the country’s GDP to 5%.
This plan aims to create 270,000 jobs, help 3,000 new businesses get started, and speed up the process of making government services available online. The Nexus AI Factory Platform is designed to help achieve these goals by improving technology and encouraging growth through innovation.
Officials highlight strategic and economic impact
As an analyst, I’ve been following the developments in Morocco’s digital sector, and recently, Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni announced a project designed to significantly boost the country’s technological strengths. Essentially, it’s about building up Morocco’s overall capacity in technology.
The new Nexus AI Factory Platform will help build Morocco’s digital infrastructure and boost the country’s expertise in digital technology and artificial intelligence, she explained.
Jaap Zuiderveld, CEO of Nexus Core Systems, explained that Morocco’s attractive investment environment and skilled workforce were the main reasons for their decision.
Morocco provides a stable political environment, progressive leadership, and a skilled workforce, making it an ideal location for our company. We’re not just building powerful infrastructure there, but also a complete support system – including a Center of Excellence and an innovation hub – to help with our operations worldwide.
Nexus Core Systems, launched in 2025 with funding from Lloyds Capital, is building AI facilities designed to handle intensive computing needs around the globe.
This London company uses cutting-edge technology from Nvidia and Naver Cloud to handle the growing need for AI processing power around the world.
