So, the Sui Network finally got its act together after three outages in May 2026. Yeah, validators saved the day after a whopping 15+ hours of downtime. Big whoop. What, were they taking a nap?
Alright, alright, the Sui Network is back online. Apparently, they fixed the bugs that caused three outages last week. May 28th and 29th, 2026-mark your calendars, folks. Over 15 hours of downtime. That’s longer than I can stand in line at the DMV. The Sui Core Team finally figured out what went wrong. Spoiler alert: it was their fault.
Three Outages in Two Days? That’s a Record, Sui!
The first outage? May 28th. Six hours and 44 minutes. No blocks being mined. Users couldn’t make transactions. Basically, the blockchain took a coffee break without telling anyone. Brilliant.
Following last week’s outages related to the 1.72 release, the Sui Core Team has completed an investigation and incident review, detailing what happened and the steps taken by validators to restart the network.

Turns out, a bug in the v1.72 update caused the whole mess. They added a new address balance feature, which, surprise, broke the gas charging system. Classic. Validators went into a crash loop. Network? Down. Users? Frustrated. Larry David? Shaking his head.

The team released a temporary fix. But, oh, they knew it might not work. Still, they went ahead because, you know, the network was already down. What’s the worst that could happen? Oh, right, another outage.
The temporary fix seemed to work. Until it didn’t. May 29th, another outage. Then, later that day, a third outage during a scheduled epoch change. Validators were restarting systems, and boom, another bug. This one was about how validators stored randomness data during restarts. Network down again. Great job, guys.
Validators to the Rescue (Finally)
First outage: 7:00 a.m. PT, May 28th. Ended around 1:30 p.m. PT. Second outage: 5:00 a.m. PT, May 29th. Ended around 8:30 a.m. PT. Third outage: 1:30 p.m. PT, lasted until 7:20 p.m. PT. Users had a blast dealing with all that downtime. Not.
Good news? User funds were safe. No reversed transactions. So, no financial losses. Small miracles, people.
The Sui Core Team did a full review. Found some weak spots. Now they’re working on improvements. AI tools helped analyze logs and gather info. Faster fixes, yay. But, you know, maybe test the updates next time?
The SUI token price? Took a hit. Down 17% in the past week. Trading near $0.88, according to CoinGecko. Ouch. But hey, at least the bugs are patched now. Network’s back to normal. For now.
The Sui Foundation promises to enhance stability and protections for future updates. Avoiding outages? That’d be nice. Larry David’s take? “You’re telling me you couldn’t get this right the first time? What, you’re running a blockchain or a Seinfeld rerun?”
