The iron bars of justice, so recently clanged shut behind Changpeng Zhao, swung open once more-not by the hand of fate, nor the slow grind of appeals, but by the whimsical stroke of a presidential pen. Donald Trump, that maestro of pardons, had deemed the Binance founder worthy of clemency, as though mercy were a commodity traded on an unregulated exchange.
Zhao-known to his acolytes as “CZ”-had knelt before the American legal Leviathan in November 2023, confessing to the sin of laundering not money, but the very concept of money. Four months in a cell, a pittance compared to the $4.3 billion tribute extracted from Binance’s coffers, had purged him of guilt. Now, pardoned and unrepentant, he pledged to make America the “Capital of Crypto,” as though the nation were a failing mall in need of rebranding.
Deeply grateful for today’s pardon and to President Trump for upholding America’s commitment to fairness, innovation, and justice.
🙏🙏🙏🙏Will do everything we can to help make America the Capital of Crypto and advance web3 worldwide.

A Nation Divided, as Always
The pardon, like all things in America, split the populace neatly into factions. Crypto’s true believers rejoiced, hailing it as the end of their persecution-never mind that their martyr had only served a sentence shorter than most Hollywood rehab stints. Anthony Pompliano, self-appointed prophet of decentralization, declared it a victory against “political targeting,” as though Zhao were a dissident in a gulag rather than a billionaire who’d gambled with regulators and lost.
It is great to see @cz_binance receive a pardon.
He has done an excellent job innovating in finance and helping advance America’s interest around the world.
There is no place for political targeting in the US justice system, regardless of which side does it.

Meanwhile, the skeptics-those stubborn relics who still believed in things like “rules”-grumbled. Legal scholars pointed out, with tedious precision, that a pardon does not erase civil penalties or magically transform Binance into a paragon of compliance. But who listens to scholars when the price of BNB is pumping?
The Market Speaks (Incoherently)
And pump it did-8% in the blink of an algorithm’s eye, as traders mistook leniency for legitimacy. The broader crypto markets, ever eager for crumbs of regulatory kindness, twitched upward. Analysts murmured sagely about “shifting enforcement priorities,” though none could say whether this was a sea change or just another ripple in the swamp of American politics.
The Grand Farce
Trump’s pardon, like all his gestures, was both grandiose and curiously empty. A “national Bitcoin reserve”? A “pro-blockchain agenda”? These were slogans, not policies-meant to dazzle the rubes and distract from the fact that power, in the end, is just another token to be traded.
The crypto faithful saw a new dawn. The skeptics saw a precedent eroded. And CZ? He was already typing another tweet from his private jet.
